Mechanical Turk Alternative

Tasks Amazon Mechanical Turk, the marketplace where requesters posted Human Intelligence Tasks (HITs) for people to complete, closed for good on September 30, 2026. If you used it to get small jobs done, such as a quick survey, a usability check, a batch of image tags or a short transcription, this page explains where YouLikeHits Tasks can take over that work, where it can't, and what to sort out on MTurk before its final deadlines pass.

What Tasks Is

Tasks is a section of YouLikeHits, a points community that has run since 2009, where members post small jobs for each other. You write what needs doing and exactly what proof you want, choose how many people should do it and how long each gets, and set the Points each person earns. The Points for every spot are set aside from your balance the moment you post. Members claim the task, do it and send their proof, and nobody is paid until you approve the work.

The flow will feel familiar if you posted HITs: a task, a deadline, proof, then approve or reject. What differs is the currency and the crowd. Tasks runs on Points rather than money, and the people doing the work are YouLikeHits members rather than a dedicated workforce.

Jobs That Suit Tasks

Tasks works best for work a person can do in minutes to an hour and that a stranger can check from the proof: testing a page or app on a phone, choosing between two thumbnails or headlines, short opinion questions, tagging or sorting a handful of items, checking AI answers, proofreading a paragraph, translating a title or a few lines, transcribing a short clip, or suggesting captions. Each task can take up to 50 people, so a quick round of feedback from many members is easy to set up.

Where It Is Not a Fit

Be clear about the limits before you switch. Tasks is not a research panel: you cannot filter by age, occupation or other demographics, and you cannot pay participants money, so studies that need a screened, compensated sample belong on a dedicated research platform. It is also not built for very large labelling or transcription contracts with quality pipelines and thousands of items; a specialist data vendor will serve that better. And because the crowd is a creator community, expect people who run channels, shops and small sites, not a general workforce.

Moving Your Small Jobs to Tasks

  1. 1
    Step 1
Sign up with a real email address and confirm it. New accounts can post their first task after a short waiting period.
  2. 2
    Step 2
Earn Points by doing other members' tasks or the other ways to earn on YouLikeHits, or buy them.
  3. 3
    Step 3
Describe the job, say exactly what proof counts as done, pick the time to finish and set the Points per person.
  4. 4
    Step 4
Approve good work, ask for one round of changes if your task allows it, or reject work that misses your criteria.

If You Did HITs on Mechanical Turk

You are welcome to do tasks here, but know what you are signing up for: Tasks pays Points, not money. Points are what YouLikeHits members use to promote their own channels, posts and websites on the site, and they have no cash value and cannot be withdrawn. If you need paid work, this is not a replacement for that income. If you run a channel or a small project of your own, Points earned on tasks can help you grow it.

Mechanical Turk Alternative: Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. MTurk permanently closed on September 30, 2026. Requesters can still approve or reject submitted work until October 30, 2026, and transaction history stays available until January 28, 2027.
For small jobs that a person can do quickly and that you can check from the proof, it covers similar ground. It runs on Points between members of one community, so it does not replace paid research panels or large data-labelling contracts.
No. Every task pays Points, the currency used across YouLikeHits. Points have no cash value.
You can reject it and say which part of your criteria it missed, or ask for one round of changes if your task includes a revision. The worker can appeal within 2 days, and the YouLikeHits team decides against what your task asked for.
Work you have not approved or rejected within 3 days is approved automatically and the worker is paid from the Points set aside for it. You get a reminder before that happens.
You choose. Each person can earn from 10 Points, and a 10% fee comes out of what the worker receives. Spots nobody claims are refunded to you when the task closes.
