Engagement Rate Calculator
Enter your follower count and the average likes and comments a post gets, and this works out your engagement rate as a percent. It runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you type is sent anywhere. The benchmark bands are rough and vary a lot by niche and account size, so treat them as a rough guide, not a grade.
How engagement rate is calculated
The common formula is total interactions on a post divided by your follower count, times 100. This tool adds up the average likes and comments, plus saves and shares if you enter them, then divides by your followers or subscribers. So an account with 5,000 followers averaging 220 likes and 18 comments has 238 interactions per post, which is 238 divided by 5,000, or about 4.76 percent. There are other versions, some divide by reach or views instead of followers, so always check which method a report is using before you compare two numbers.
Why it matters more than follower count
Follower count tells you how many people once tapped follow. Engagement rate tells you how many still care enough to react. A 3,000-follower account where posts get a few hundred genuine likes and real comments is usually worth more, to a brand and to the algorithm, than a 100,000-follower account where posts barely move. Feeds reward posts that earn early reactions with more reach, which is why a smaller, engaged audience often outperforms a large, quiet one. A high rate on a small account is normal and healthy, not a fluke to be embarrassed about.
How to improve the number honestly
The rate goes up when more of the people who already follow you react, so the durable levers are posting things worth commenting on, replying to the comments you do get, and posting consistently enough that your audience stays warm. Buying followers does the opposite, it inflates the bottom of the fraction and drops your rate. If you want more real eyes on the content first, so genuine engagement has a chance to build, here is how the views side works and how the TikTok side works.
